Penang

Hwai and I had a vacation in Penang recently. Greedy me looked forward immensely at tasting the local delicacies again. Wah…asam laksa…wah…curry laksa…wah…char kuey teow…wah…cendol…wah…everything else πŸ˜› Hmm…kinda silly of me not to have taken pictures of any of the food though. Guess I was too busy stuffing them down my throat…ahahaha….

Anyway, we went by the night train, which left KL Sentral 15 minutes after it was scheduled to depart (quite good by Malaysian standards). However, it arrived in Butterworth over an hour after the expected time (sorry Kim & Cheng πŸ˜› luckily you brought your pillows to sleep in the car with ar)

Wah…first stop already dim sum. Then set off on pleasing my stomach after taking a sweet long nap. I love cendol!! I must say, all the big malls have really given Penang a ‘KL’ atmosphere. Everybody looks so posh and fashion-forward, it’s hard not to mistake it as just another KL mall. Bleh~running away from one to another.

The next day, we agreed to set off to Penang Hill. The ride was…relaxing. No hurry, no rush. At all.

Note to self: Must remember NOT to go there again.

What was funny though, was how many figures they had erected at roundabouts. So maybe they’re supposed to mean something to the people…but this? Birds flying around Gurney Drive?

So it’s supposed to denote what…that seagulls are free to roam about the coast? That we’re all free citizens of the country? That Penang is an island? As if the sight of the sea is not reminder enough.

Now…

3 years ago and 3 years later, as Penang has changed, so have we. I can feel the distance that has grown, the different lives we now lead, the different goals we strive to achieve. Perhaps 3 years later there will be even more changes. What I’ve learnt to accept is that no matter what change may come, we have already created a history together and that at least, will never change.
